NEW BATHING PIER IN GOTHENBURG
The site consists of a sandy beach and vast open grass covered land surrounded by beautiful nature. A long straight parkway leading down to the beach contributes to a distinct mainline from the entry down to the starting point of the pier.
Designing the new pier has involved consideration about, among others, existing environment and constructions, wind directions, angle of the sun and sea depths. The pier is accessible to everyone and offers space for sunbathing, swimming, resting and walking.
The idea is to create a structure, an artificial landscape, with a distinct walking lane. At certain spots along the lane, there are integrated equipments for sunbathing, relaxing and playing. The pier becomes an extension of the main path and reaches 260 meters out to sea. Long ramps are integrated in the pier.
With this project, the architectural firm Manofactory, in the person of Sara Mendoza, is nominated for the award of Architect of the Year by the Swedish magazine Betong.
