Mókollar House
Mókollar House is located at a steep slope on Mount Esja in the vicinity of Reykjavík. The house is situated so as to take full advantage of the spectacular views provided by the exuberant landscape surrounding the site. The house is partly submerged in the slope and the bedroom wing cladded with basalt stone so typical for Mount Esja, thus further engaging the house with the topography of the site. Care is taken to create sheltered outdoor spaces, notably the terrace adjoining the study room/library where you can spend quite evenings enjoying the outdoor fireplace. Openings frame selected aspects of the surroundings, the large gable window looking over Kollafjörður Bay creates the notion of an open tent.
The access to the house is on the upper level which contains living/dining room and kitchen as well as a bedroom wing with an adjoining family room. The lower level contains a study room/library, laundry storage and a guest bedroom.
The house is made of in situ concrete and wood (roof structures).
