Private House Renovation
In 2010, we were asked as architects to renovate a typical Flemish postwar house into a spacious and open private residence. The challenge was to inverse the entire program, in a way that every function had the best orientation and enough privacy from the neighbors, without any heavy reconstructions in the existing structures. From the first sketches it became clear that we would retain the existing residential volume and organize here the entrance hall, bedroom, bathroom and bureau.
On the garden side we constructed, a new volume over the full width of the plot, where the kitchen, dining and lounge area were localized. On the energetic level, the existing and new volumes were intensively insulated with the isofinish system from Eternit and Recticel and the glass in the windows are triple glazing. For the external façade we used ThermoWood battens wood and fiber cement Eter Color plates. With this renovation, we have attempted to create an inspiring environment for the client and a home for the son to grow up freely.
