The client required the construction of 22 small holiday houses with about 50sqm each. The plot is located on a pronounced slope of a valley by a small lake that is defined by the master plan. The only access is at the highest western part of the plot. The buildings occupy the slope. The entrance platform is conceived as a promontory, overlooking the landscape. The general shape of the constructions follows the existent topography. Each module consists of an upstairs bedroom and downstairs living room, both facing a double height porch. “Brise-soleil” with plants provide shade and a fresh atmosphere. Handcrafted materials that are mainly used in traditional Portuguese architecture are mixed together with modern materials such as aluminum window frames. At the end of the project it was necessary to include two additional units with a larger area in a separate building.
