Multifunctional Center Klarendal
On a former military district Klarendal in Arnhem the old building will be replaced by a new multifunctional accommodation. This center has a variety of features which includes a dance hall, a school, a community center and a day care nursery. An important aspect of the design is therefore the cooperation and the multifunctional nature.
On each floor there is a wide 'street' with specific spaces for the users. All the different users walk down this street where they can use the different functions such as kitchens, computer workstations, desks and extra playroom for children.
The street is about six feet wide and gets lots of natural light through the transparency of the façade and voids through which the light goes deep into the building. Sustainability is also an important issue for the municipality so that aspects such as the use of energy from daylight, but also flexibility and use of the building in the future, reflects in the final design.
