Casa José Ignacio
This house is located next to the sea, on a privileged lot right onto the beach of José Ignacio. The site has a moderate slope towards the sea and its main views are towards the west and the sunset. Along the southern facade, a public access path, very busy in summer, leads to the beach.
The program is a single family vacation home for continuous use during the summer, and occasional use during the winter. It is designed almost entirely in a single floor that terraces slightly following the natural slope of the terrain.
This house harmonises with the wildness of the maritime landscape of José Ignacio through its intense formal austerity and the use of local stone for the masonry walls. On these, echoing the seaward horizon, rests an extended flat green roof enhanced by the luminosity of the white stucco. Whereas this roof shelters all the living spaces below, for the master bedroom above, it becomes a private garden terrace. Introverted in character, the massiveness of the entrance facade contrasts with the permeable, open composition of the main floor, which proffers a rich variety of spaces where inside and outside overlap and spectacular views of the sea unfold.
