Palliative pavilion
The new Palliative Station has 14 beds, a meditation room, a therapeutic bath, a palliative counselling service, a IT center and a linen output. The Palliative Station is a carefully looped shape inserted into the landscape to maintain the maximum of the existing tree population.
The building concept is based on the well-being of patients, visitors and staff. The pavilion offers single and double rooms for terminally ill patients, who are given the opportunity to prepare in a homely environment within the hospital complex, to be discharged to a nursing home or to spend the last days in the presence of their relatives.
The patient rooms are located on the east side of the building facing the garden. There is the possibility for relatives to stay over night in an extra guest room. From each patient’s room you are able to get on disabled accessible common terraces. Floor to ceiling glazing allows an unrestricted view to the outside.
The main corridor, connects the clearly separated administrative part from one side of the corridor to the patient rooms on the other side, and loops around a glazed atrium. The lower level of the pavilion is the connector to the existing Oncology building. This gives the opportunity within a short distance to transport the patient to a possible treatment.
In the basement is a laundry dispenser for 600 staff members, as well as the computer backup hub of the hospital. These functions have their own accessibility. While the exterior appearance is marked by a textured aluminum façade, natural materials were used in all patient areas
