Warsaw Moma
The museum will be housed in a single building, composed into several pavillions, improving the distribution and the organization of the routes. The idea is to make easier for the curators of exhibitions to create different routes and multiple interpretations.
Each volume is an indipendent space, although it is linked with the others and with the public spaces. At certain points is possible to see one collection from another or to cross over between them.
The volumes form a new landscape like a sculpture garden. In the project the bubble-like pavillions are reorganized inside a unitary concept like a series of plastic events. On the top of the structure is set a roof-garden, a complex space where, above the bubble-volumes, a new system of open spaces, routes and architectural presences is replicated.
The building is divided into organic spaces that present different possibilities of display.
The museum performs the function of a new public space.
The exhibition rooms are organized into a continuous route; the idea of the continuous space is accentuated by the fact that exhibition spaces and routes join each other, creating an interpenetration of the spaces, public, private, inside, outside.
The visit to the museum is organized along a continuous route around the volumes. The building is like a sponge, a living organism in which the stream of visitors define the soft shape of the external and internal spaces. The use of flowing spaces between the various programmatic elements, of a kind of continuous public realm, allows for the creation of diverse and interesting spaces exploring the relationship between internal/external, public/private. The initial division of spaces comes from a conceptual analysis of the public realm, or the flows of people creating virtual open spaces. This process produces the alternation of the shell structures, the open and closed spaces.
The project is seen as a whole composed of parts; the exhibition spaces and the program of the museum are organized around nine different volumes, linked together by the public space . The building is made up of a set of curvilinear volumes, composed by complex free curved surface shell with various curvatures. The structure is in 20 cm reinforced concrete shell, free edge shell with smooth surface. The structural system is integral part of the architectural form, and the construction process. The double surface structure, arriving at a balance between freedom of form and the structural efficiency, is proposed to be shortconcrete structure coupled by the steel structure utilized as temporary support of the construction. The museum is like a continuous 3d network, both orizzontally and vertically; like the organs of a living being, the museum is an organic and visionary space, vivibile not only as an interior, but also in its external spaces.
