Dreamhouse
Rotterdam Lijnbaan’s area has been enriched with the renovation of one of the monumental building designed by Van den Broek en Bakema in the 1950s.
Rectangular volumes, according to their original massing, have been stacked in balanced proportions maintaining the existing concrete structure. They display a subtle differentiation of materials, window openings, colours and details giving a contemporary feel to the traditional Lijnbaan architectural identity. The façade of the cantilever is accentuated by a series of sharp aluminium slats in front of a large glass sheet windows.
The building itself is simply straight-edged. Seen straight on, it emerges as a show-box and affords an unobstructed view inside. The three volumes characterized by glass and flush transparency, sharp expressivity and glazed surface are a contemporary interpretation of the typical Sixties plasticity of the Rotterdam Lijnbaan area.
