One of Matteo Thun’s first creations for the hospitality industry, Hamburg’s Side Hotel is also one of the world’s first design hotels. It is the result of an international and interdisciplinary collaboration between Matteo Thun, Jan Störmer and the New York–based director and set designer Robert Wilson.
The project won the Hotel des Jahres award in 2001.
Architecture, interior design and constantly changing lighting engage the client through a multisensory dialogue. The solidity and rigor of the building’s green stone façade conceal the true heart of the hotel: an eight-story full-height and light-filled atrium at the center of the building.
Both in its public areas and in its rooms and suites, the hotel embodies a synthesis of “high touch” and natural comfort.
