Grand National Theatre in Beijing - China
The building is composed by an opera, a concert hall and 2 theaters joined under a titanium and glass shell that covers the public space.
This cultural complex has been conceived as a “city of theaters”, a transparent island in an artificial lake, surrounded by a new urban park.
"The decision to build the Grand National Theatre in a place of such historical and symbolic import clearly testifies to the importance given to culture in its relationship with history and
the contemporary world. (...) The Beijing National Grand Theatre must be part of fabric of the city, a theatre in the city, a new district of spectacles and dreams open to one and all.”
