DUNE
DUNE is a street furniture system designed by the FERPECT collective for “Forme Publique”, the Biennale of Street Furniture’s Design organized by DEFACTO in La Defense near Paris. FERPECT is a group of designers, engineers and thinkers, active in the fields of architecture, urbanism and design.
With DUNE, FERPECT signs a microarchitecture whose possibilities of use change depending on the climate. The front side offers a 20 ° slope of acacia wood promoting relaxation in the sun and on the back side displays a frame of retified pine slats that brings shelter from winds or sun. Fixed on the Dune, a variety of functional furniture complements the system: tables, shelves and benches. Therefore, each dune is able to form a proper configuration and reveals its particular function: to check a document out of the wind, a lunch with colleagues, basking in the sun ... The empty slopes invite to appropriation, to nonchalance, taking the time or lounging ...
Designed on a principle of interchangeable and easily transportable modules, DUNE can be assembled into a larger island or adapted to the neighborhood’s activity. The low and vibrating geography of this modular furniture will insert discreetly into the landscape, leaving the horizon open. Dune is an eco-friendly project with simple and scalable ergonomics, radically open to ownership.
Winning project of “Forme Publique 2011”, the Biennale of Street Furniture’s Design, created by JC Choblet and organized by DEFACTO a public institution in charge of management and animation of La Defense, near Paris.
