This project consists of an extension to the offices of Schoups Lawyers. The extension, a conversion of one of the floors in an old warehouse, maintains the integrity and beauty of the existing raw, in situ concrete structure by leaving it visible. The old structure acts as an organizational grid to the new floor plan. This generates a flexibility, allowing for the creation of office spaces, meeting rooms, a collective canteen, and a central foyer that can be used both for receptions and lectures.
All mechanical and electrical installations are concealed by a raised computer floor or placed behind the acoustic ceiling panels that are lined out between the existing beams. Light switches are built into the vertical elements of the door frames. META architectuurbureau also designed all the fixed furniture and acted as lead consultant for the choice of all other furniture.
Through the extensive use of white, the use of florescent strip lighting between the beams and floor to ceiling joinery (solid wood door frames with glass paneling), the space itself is enhanced and highlighted. In hanging cement wool panels between the beams, an exceptional acoustic performance is achieved. This serves to create a quiet and pleasant atmosphere. In this series of moves the project acts as a blank canvas, with the lawyers as the colourful protagonists.
