1 Baker’s Row
Reinterpreting a decorated Victorian window reveal, 1 Baker’s Row in the Clerkenwell Green Conservation Area of London delivers 8 new homes on a small and constrained site.
This residential scheme for Great Marlborough Estates is equally inspired by local architectural traditions, the neighbourhood’s diamond trade heritage and the practical constraints of a very small, dense site in central London.
Conceived as a polished and refined gemstone, the dark, matt and textured skin of the building is punctuated by large scale polished aluminium windows. Each home has one celebratory window dressed with chamfered and polished metal reveals, contrasting with the textured cladding. This references the decorated warehouses in the conservation area while reflecting daylight deep into the apartments, maximising light in and views out.
