Living in the infravillas
The project site is located on the edge of the urban sprawl of the city of Norrköping.
The proposal makes this area a gate to the city, increases population density and creates new areas of services to the neighborhood and entire city. The project aims to activate the potential of the adjacent park with walking trails and new planning of territories and grounds.
All of the strategic area is a precious landscape, but also inhabited, with opportunity to explore the park, living grounds and fields.
The urban plan combines global scale (macro) and local scale (human scale) with solutions to the large scale problematic of transport, tram and pedestrian, city-nature and connections to the district of Vilbergen.
The existing tramline is extended to connect the core of the city to the neighnorhood, It starts from the small density district of Lindö; passes the centre of Norrköping and arrives in Vilbergen. It runs along the road Gamla Övägen and passes through the building arriving directly to the hospital Vrinnevisjukhuset in Norrköping.
The project interacts with the existing green surroundings, merging the two green zones along the Gamla Övägen. Working like a zipper, permitting pedestrian crossing, the project creates a unique park which converses with the forrest surrounding the project area. The permeability of the ground in the project area doesn’t change because the new building is built over the road.
The analysis of the housing site is visually divided into two categories:low density and high density.
The new construction proposes a new living model: combining the lifestyle of living in a private home with the typical services of a residential building like parking lots and other neighborhood services. In the common passages inside the building there is the possibility to develop small 5x5 meter spaces into personal or commercial areas such as studios, offices or shops.
The roof is designed as a patchwork of sustainable energy generation. In addition rain water is collected for use in the surrounding gardens. It is also a green roof designed to contribute positively to filter the polluted air.
