Restaurant Tagawa, one of the oldest and largest Japanese restaurants in Europe, was due for renovation twenty years after its opening. The restaurant has an immense open space where a diverse selection of Japanese foods can be enjoyed including traditional, business and family.
Though the immense open space and multi-functionality of the restaurant is a positive aspect, it also poses problems such as lack of privacy. We have sought a design strategy that is recognized as typical Japanese but is fresh and innovative. The Japanese garden is used as a design reference whereby places are loosely connected while at the same time subtly differentiated by the landscape. In this way the various places develop their own atmosphere while simultaneously becoming a whole.
