Bohus Archipel
Three premium gardens create a special feature in the entrance area of the Landesgartenschau (Regional Garden Show) in Norderstedt, Germany. These gardens are enclosed by semi-transparent walls from polymer mesh. The premium garden Bohus Archipel was designed in close collaboration between the architectural planning office ANNABAU and the executing construction firms. The firms' service profiles helped to determine the design.
The garden is inspired by the Swedish west coast. A minimalistic combination of water, sparse granite rocks and only a few robust plants are the leading idea for this garden, which is coined by natural stone plates, water and roses. Small-scale granite allegorises the Swedish seabed and invites the visitor to walk barefoot in the shallow water.
Reddish, large scale stone plates create islands inhabited by light pink, apricot and yellow blooming Austin roses, and encourage the visitor to jump from island to island. A small selection of perennials are chosen to give a beautiful picture over the whole season. Water streams down the enclosing polymer mesh before calming down in the still water between the islands. During hot summer days the micro-climate in this garden will be extraordinarily pleasing.
