Residential Building
The residential building at Marlene-Dietrich-Straße preludes a new compositely utilized urban quarter, placed in the new development area Arnulfpark, formally owned by the Bundesbahn. This area is situated close to the city centre and is part of the social housing program of the captital city munich, 106 council flats have been put up. The fixed marginal block-flat development is composed as an urban house with an architectural autonomic façade, which covers its type of use to a large extend:
So a unitary French window form is applied for each room and superelevates the ground-plans structure into an architectural statement of an urban edge.
The central theme of the architecture of the block is to formulate the public and private spaces via the establishment of positiv sides: private rooms (like the loggia and the patio) are lightly encoded, while the public area of the façade is tinged anthracite-coloured.
Starting point for the design of the façade-relief was a moulding plaster (Stolit MP) which was suitable in a special way for translating the thematic demand earth for this housing into action. The façade receives through structure and colour of this moulding plaster a light swell of the general view.
Finally the living-conception is based upon the idea of living together around the loggia as a community area, to which the individual rooms are tied up: as a consequence, the flat-oriented living area is not to be assigned to one single room, but is integrated into the whole living-structure.
