Galleria Gió Marconi Milano
Two buildings are joined by an eye-catching hinge: the new focal point in the courtyard is at once the main entrance, the reception area, and a visible emblem of the Galleria Gió Marconi. The medium for this visualization is an existing CI color, a saturated yellow that appears in three places: a yellow strip window unifies the gallerys various display windows, facing the street and sealed with gray metal panels, indicating the function of the space behind; another yellow strip element is set above the main entrance, marking the new center in the courtyard; a third yellow element is the reception desk directly inside the transparent entryway, appearing as a three-dimensional logo. Light and color join to form a spatial guidance system that extends from the street through the courtyard and into the gallerys interior. The exhibition spaces themselves are generic white cubes with gray floors and white walls that are both horizontally and vertically configurable. A projection and conference room, as well as the gallerists office and reception room add to the spectrum of exhibition spaces at ground level. This set of spaces is structured by floor-to-ceiling furniture units: smooth and gray, devoid of recognizable handcrafted details, they appear as life-sized models of themselves.
