Eco-museum At The Nakdong River
The Nakdong River area of Busan is a zone that illustrates the impact of human intervention in a natural environment. The modulation of the area in reaction to the attempts of stabilizing it for human purpose is significant for the relation that our society established to nature.
Replacing the human being among the forces and rules of nature means going back to a time, where the absence of technology subdued the human being to the research of an harmonious way of live within nature, to respectful and balanced co-existance.
The untouched and freely develloping environment is structured by a rational network of decks. They permit the visitor to find his way to nature without acting on it in a violent way. High columns integrating light, interactive information panels and maps place our rational system and way of functioning parallelly to nature and its complexe processes. This network of paths and columns instaures the right angle in the organic order of nature and evokes at the same time images from long ago.
The departure into this right angle labyrinth is articulated as a center point of information and preparation: the building of the eco-center. Its structure is decomposed in its different componants. The functional groups of the program are articulated by the diversity of contemporary, industrial exterior claddings. They guarantee the orientation of the visitor and propose a report of of our civilization throughout the diversity of materials.
The public spaces around the independent volumes are not isolated and exposed to climatic circumstances; the weather and the surrounding site penetrate the building, pursue the experience of an exterior nature into the interior.
The permanent exposition space clad with black metal panels is situated on top of the building. It gives panoramic views over the landscape. The materials of the different programmatic volumes are an expression of the complexity and variety of contemparary construction-modes and possibilities, formally organized following the industrial esthetics of high level cicilization.
The global exterior structure has got two major functions: it dispatches the weight of the building on a big surface of the ground in order to permit the high density of this six story building on a ground of low density and it replaces the visitor in a sort of a diaphane cage approaching him to nature by the allegoric accentuation of the critical relation we maintain to our environment.
