Meesters Van De Romantiek
The Exhibition Was a Cooperation Between the Kunsthal in Rotterdam and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Ronald De Leeuw, Director of the Rijksmuseum, Worked As Guest Curator for Almost 5 Years on This Project to Investigate Dutch Romantic Art. 24H Was Asked to Design the Interior for This Exhibition Within Rem Koolhaas Kunsthal Building.
Within the Romantic Movement Two Extremes Are Visible: a Narrow Minded View of the World and a Love for Freedom. This Became Visible in the Romantic Paintings Through Neat Portraits on One Hand and Expressions of Degenerated Nature on the Other.
for 24H This Was an Important Inspirational Source for the Design. This Is Brought Into Expression by a Living Room Completed With Benches, Chandeliers, Floral Wall Paper and Pictures Hanging on the Walls at One End and a Sculptural Rock, Tree-Trunks and Branches As Bannisters at the Other.
the Big Walls Are Sealed With Colored Lycra, Consealing Natural Elements, Like Deer Antlers, Stuffed Birds, Shells and Pineapples Which Stick out from Under It. Most of These Elements Are Placed at the Wild Life Side of the Exhibition. the Exhibition Fades from the Living Room to Nature With Four Tracks and Four Sub Themes Bridging the Two Extremes. Thus It Develops from the Rigid Orthogonality of the Living Room to the Wild Expressiveness of Walls at the Wildlife Side.
the Stairs Provide the Missing Link in the Koolhaas Design for the Kunsthal, Creating a Connection to Hall 3 of the Kunsthal, Which Is Set up With Oil Paintings and Drawings of Romantic Painters.
