Church in Sevilla
To make a church in the neighborhood of La Macarena, in Seville, a city filled with light.
To make a space in which to come together to pray, a holy place. Full of light and shade and calm and peace.
The lot is a small triangle with only one neighboring property. There we raised the spacious body. The triangular floor plan recalls the prow of a ship, which emerging from the simple and white volume expresses the unique character of the building.
Outside, strong planes form a white prism that seems to advance. Inside, meeting rooms on the first floor, with their rectangular plan, are hanging boxes which allow for openings at double height through which light from above pours. The light entering through the prow creates a strong focal intent.
On the roof terrace, a few high walls have been raised, like a box open to the sky, giving the general volume greater dimension.
A very simple white church, full of light and shade and calm and peace.
