Sustainability stands for semplicity. This statement links last tamassociati research in building practise. Sustainability deals directly to three contemporary issues for our societies: effective politics, responsable design, appropriate tecnologies.
Tamassociati had focused its work on a creative interaction among these three aspects: politics, design, technology; trying to find innovative solutions in each of these fields.
The buiding we propose is designed for Emergency, an italian NGO who provides free, high quality medical and surgical treatment to the civilian victims of war, landmines and poverty.
The extreme conditions in which this project is carried out forced us to consider semplicity as a strategy for any decision, without loosing the perspective of high qualified medical and architectural standards for the project.
The result involves the use of new and “old tecnologies (for cooling, air treatment, rycycling, riallocation of local materials, landscape design, saving energies, …) and different languages (signs, colours, light, materials, nature …) in a innovative and non ideological attitude to perform architecture and sustainability in beauty.
Rethinking the potental of “simplicity” is our vision of the future sustainability.
1 POLICY: Building peace to build a future for all. A hospital in Darfur is about putting the foundations for a fairer society, not only in Africa. Simply because we are concerned.
2 SYMBOL: Return to a symbolic dimension of the city. Think of an architecture capable of generating places to go talk to people and people.
3 CITY: Rethinking the city as the place of cohabitation. This means thinking about the elements that compose it as environmentally friendly items.
4 TECHNOLOGY: The best possible technology is that we do not use. Assisted natural ventilation to provide the right comfort, simple-tech. A simple way of thinking applicable in future cities.
5 MATERIAL: The best solution is the simplest. Working in extreme conditions, teach you to develop the "common sense" practices and reveal great creative potential.
The Pediatric Clinic – EMERGENCY ngo
