The bar is located in Via Garibaldi a street that was created in XVI century as representative of the powerful Genoese families. The original space was characterized by a barrel vault, that now after the refurbishment with plaster and concrete finishing assumes a monastery austerity.
Rotating wooden tables gives two different layout on for the lunch time, and one for the aperitive and night time with possibility for buffets and special event.
The balance with the table layout is given by the bar with his strong and monolith presence in the space, that the rhythmical lightly above increase the sense of rigour and severity.
The back wall and the end of the main room has a double function, one is to hide the entrance to the kitchen and toilette but at the same time recreate a background for the space. The wall on one side ideally continue the volt but with a “sign of light” and if perceptively the wall is one, physically the wall is only a part, the rest is the projection of the light that recreate the shape of the missing wall.
Elements subtraction is one of the way to arrive to an elegant simplicity, as placing natural elements is fundamental to relate time and space.
A quotation of Svoboda mirrors makes real what is only an image, in the cut in the wall with a display for elements gives an other place of changing perception. So giving the feeling of a “presence” with an “absence” the project let the client to play with memory and get over the traditional edges of perception.
