Seven Steps for Båstad – a sustainable urban strategy for Nya Hemmeslöv
Our aim for Nya Hemmeslöv is to create a diverse and complex town centre and settlement that interacts with its surroundings and is based as much on the patterns of the existing settlement as the landscape. Great potentials are views and access to the surrounding hills and the ocean. Nya Hemmeslöv should offer new qualities that are based on the character and scale of the small town of Båstad and its environs.
The seven steps and compartments of Nya Hemmeslöv arise from a weave of urban fabric, green corridors, landscaped parks and public spaces. By determining the area’s unique features and developing them into strategic elements, they provide a connected framework for future development. The green corridors, the red urban corridors and the orange youth/ children activity corridors form a coherent environment for recreation and nature as well as creating a natural division and variation across the site.
A premise for the proposal is to manage storm water sustainably and to convert it into a unique asset and quality. The transport network concentrates on the accessibility of public transport and the connection to the new station area. The project aims at improving the quality of urban spaces and recreational areas, ensuring pedestrian and bicycle network.
The resulting framework is for a new town centre where parts can be added over time as needed – complementing and connecting the existing settlements and building on the qualities of the site.
