Tramoggia
The mountain as author
An old concrete drinking trough (tramoggia) was used by the cattle housed in the near-by stables. The local community asked us to design a new fountain, replacing the old and cracked one: “a wooden fountain, with a canopy, like the ones you see in the villages’ squares”. While evaluating their request, we were instead seduced by the charm of the old trough, shaped by the passage of time and by the vegetation, beautifully blended with Coi’s landscape.
We proposed to build a new steel basin and insert it inside the old one, with a geometry that would allow the water to overflow into the ancient trough while keeping it operational, and to use the original drain system. The supply is softened by its angle of incidence on the steel, and the overflow is flush with the walls. Thanks to its shape the fountain plays with the natural light, and the water forms a mirror that reflects the sky, the mountains and the surrounding landscape: the new basin is built for enhancing these elements.
