JULIO LAFUENTE
TOR DI VALLE HIPPODROME
Issue #148 is dedicated to the Hippodrome of Tor di Valle by Julio Lafuente, a piece of the Roman architectural heritage of the Twentieth Century which is currently in danger of being demolished.
"On the occasion of the 1960 Olympics, the city of Rome undertakes the construction of various sporting installations and urban infrastructures in order to house the games and take advantage of their dissemination to present an image of modernity to the world. Taking into consideration these aspirations, several work teams formed by architects and engineers design various buildings whose architecture is derived, in great part, from a fascination with light structures and large dimensions, introduced thanks to the latest industrial and technological advances. Among these buildings is the Hippodrome of Tor di Valle (1959), by Spanish architect Julio Lafuente." Marta Pastor
